Time Hacks to Sneak Self Care into Every Day

Managing a hectic life, like juggling a to-do list while working full-time, can leave many of us asking – where does all the time go?

With all the talk about self-care, mental wellness, the importance of exercise, and clean eating, you may laugh at adding one more thing to your plate. But you do have time.

We’ve all developed habits. Each habit means little on its own, but over time, the meals we order, how often we exercise, and the way we organize our thoughts and work routines impact on our productivity, financial security, health, and happiness in big ways.

You have the power to reset your routines and habits! Here are some easy-to-incorporate ways to fit in health and fitness into your life, no matter how busy the day feels. Pick one or all. Just start.

  • Go to bed an hour earlier. Wake up feeling refreshed and energized.
  • Exercise first thing. It will set the tone for your day, leaving you feeling accomplished, and strong long before 8 a.m.
  • Do the most important thing as early as possible every day. It sounds simple, but most of us don’t. If getting in a run or planning healthy meals is your highest priority, doing it first almost eliminates the possibility of anything else getting in the way.
  • Establish priorities and get good at saying no. Turn down things that are inconsistent with your priorities. Gaining back time that you can spend cooking more at home, exercising, and catching up on missed sleep.
  • Make plans for meals. Eating healthy is harder when you feel strapped for time. It helps to plan ahead. A good hack: Create your own menu for the week every Sunday. Look at your calendar to know when you need a quick meal versus one that takes longer to prepare. You’ll probably find that it’s not that much more expensive to eat healthy.  Need some ideas?
